Children’s Sunday School: Chris Grudzien, Cyndy Rooker

     Adult Education: Dan Thomas

There were 17 students enrolled in the Children’s Sunday School (Nursery-Grade 6).

We continue using Cokesbury’s One Room Sunday School “Deep Blue Kids Adventure.”  There is a Deep Blue Adventure app for the families that contains the videos for each week, trivia games that review the lessons and a parent portal explaining what the children are learning in the week’s lesson and the anchor point.

     Winter: Leaders of the Community

Spring: Observing Lent in Community, Celebrating Resurrection in                     Community, First Christian Communities

This was a very unusual year for the Sunday School as COVID-19 caused the cancellation of in-person classes. After the March 15th class, classes were suspended.

Pastor Mary and I made two outside visits to the Sunday School families.  In April we delivered Easter bags and I dressed up a bunny suit.  In June we delivered fun bags while Pastor Mary entertained the families with bubbles.

When services were held outdoors, activity bags were made for the children, varying related to their ages, to help occupy the children, especially the younger ones, during the outdoor service.  This continued when we began indoor services.

Souper Bowl Sunday was held February 2nd.  Total: $48, 70 items, correctly predicted Kansas City would win the Super Bowl.

Youth Group – Pajama/pizza party, “Abdominable” (movie), Yeti in My Spaghetti game, etc.

Youth activity:  March 17th, video “Dumplin” was shown with discussion and taco meal.

One Great Hour of Sharing – unable to participate this year due to COVID.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt - cancelled due to COVID.  Doug’s to Go event held May 13th.  Raised $719.85 for camp scholarships.  No bake sale due to COVID.

Pastor Mary and Cyndy delivered Easter baskets to the children’s homes.

June – July:

Rocky Railroad VBS - Was planned for June 28-July 2 but also had to be cancelled due to COVID.

In August the committee and the All Things Creative craft group assembled packages to mail to all past VBS participants to let them know they are being thought of and to plan on VBS next summer.

Delivered bags of fun to the children’s homes.

VanderKamp:   Sadly, the decision was made to close VanderKamp.

We continue to collect returnable cans and bottles to raise money for camp scholarships. A total of $352.85 has been raised so far for camp scholarships.  We will continue to collect for the campers as there are other local camp opportunities.

UNICEF – also not participated in this year due to COVID.

Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child.  Samaritan’s Purse collects the donated boxes filled with school supplies, hygiene items, and some fun items – and delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way.  The Sunday School ordered 12 boxes and members of the congregation took boxes to fill and pay the shipping free of $9.  (3 for girls aged 2-4, 2 for boys aged 5-9, 2 for girls aged 5-9, 3 for boys 10-14, 2 for girls aged 10-14)  Shipping was done online which allows us to track our boxes to see where they are delivered.  The boxes were delivered Nov. 16.

In order to hopefully engage the children on the Zoom services, Children’s Worship bulletins and other relevant activities were emailed to the Sunday School children.

November 29th Pastor Mary and I delivered Advent calendars to the Sunday School families.

December 20th Christmas gift bags were delivered to the Sunday School families.

Updating Bibles for older Youth – The Christian Education Committee decided to update the Bibles for our older youth.  We purchased “The Message” Bibles for Sophia Gwinn, Grace  and Meagan Fatcheric, Danielle Moore, Jenna and Alison Grudzien, Jacob and Noah Hickok, Dylan Leubner, David Seitz, and Madison Morsdorf.

Adult Bible Study:  Dan Thomas continues to hold this class on Sundays before church service.  It is always an insightful class as Dan shares interesting background and leads discussion based on the scripture lessons of the day’s sermon.  Since the middle of March this has been done via Zoom.

Scholarship reminder:  There is a Westminster College Scholarship available for up to $76,000 ($19,000 for four years.

Thanks to the support of the church, a wonderful committee, and creative, hardworking teachers, the Christian Education Committee has been blessed with another year of sharing the good news with the children of our church and community.

Respectfully submitted,

Cynthia Rooker
