Annual Report 2017

Another year passes, another opportunity to take stock, to look back, to remember and give thanks.  In this report I will highlight a few things that I am thankful for.

We  saw some major improvements to our facility.  The dining room, kitchen and Koinonia room got a fresh new look with a coat of paint.  The floors in the dining room were cleaned and polished. A new chair rack for storage was purchased to have the dining room look a bit more organized.  Last winter, the windows were being blown open by strong winds.  Session determined that we needed to have the windows replaced.  The congregation was informed of this need and every window was paid for by the gracious donations of this body!  Many important renovations were made to keep our building a welcoming and safe place for our members and the many community groups who rely upon our facilities.

Last year, I had the privilege of teaching the confirmation class.  It was a wonderful time to spend thinking theologically with some of our young people.  All of the confirmands joined the church.  It was a great day in our life as a church, to welcome these new members.

I was given permission by the Session to spend a week with our youth at Vanderkamp, our Presbyterian supported camp, as the summer camp chaplain.

Last Spring, with a newly painted kitchen and dining room, we hosted a luncheon.  The luncheon had dual purposes, one was collecting new and gently used kitchen items for refugee families who became new Americans. The second purpose was to enjoy fellowship with one another and the opportunity to invite a friend.

The other highlights are ministries that reach out into our community, like the Westshore lunches, and the ice cream social, cookie decorating and caroling at Evergreen Heights.  Also our Ecumenical Vacation Bible School.  It is meaningful to interact with others in the greater Weedsport community.

I am grateful for the work and ministry of our elders and deacons.  It is a joy to know that we are partners in this venture we call church.

The staff, the worship committee and I spend time designing and implementing worship services every Sunday.  It is a highlight to work with this group of people to bring you worship experiences that hopefully draw us closer to God's heart and give God the glorious offering of our praise.

May God bring, the First Presbyterian Church of Weedsport, God's blessings in 2018.
