The Weedsport Ecumenical Vacation Bible School was sponsored by First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, United Methodist Church, and Sennett Federated Church. The 2016 program called “Surf Shack” was held Sunday, June 26 (6-7:30 pm) and Monday-Thursday, June 27-30 (9 am-noon).
Thirty-five children discovered an interactive, energizing, Bible-based program that gave them an opportunity to ride the waves with God. During Vacation Bible School at Surf Shack: Catch the Wave of God’s Amazing Love, the children became Surfers and explored how to serve God and experience God’s amazing presence in their lives.
After a high-energy Opening Assembly at the Surf Shack, the Surfers made their way to the Story Deck to discover amazing Bible lessons. Interactive Bible lessons were highlighted by Wave Words to help them recognize where God is inviting them to participate in God’s ongoing creation, and the Surfers discovered Pop-Up Verses (Bible Memory Verses) that will remain with them in their faith long after VBS.
The children expanded on what they discovered by participating in a variety of activities: making their own art projects at the Craft Hut, singing new music at the Tidal Tunes, participating in recreational activities at the Recreation Station, exploring science activities at Discovery Dunes, and enjoying tasty Shack Snacks. Along the way, the Surfers heard about our mission project and enjoyed being active!
Something for everyone! There was also an adult Bible study class and an acrylic painting class attended by twelve adults.
The free Surf Shack mobile app, available free to the participants, included a variety of fun games, songs, and quizzes!
On Thursday parents and friends were invited to join us for “Breakfast on the Beach.” Fish-shaped pancakes were served!
Our mission this year was to assist Flint Michigan with their water issues. $196.83 was raised.
We also had a float in the Fireman’s Field Days parade. Our “Surf Shack” theme was recreated on a horse drawn wagon pulled by Duke and Prince. The Minturn family, Chuck, David and Abby, provided the horses, wagon and driver.
Volunteers! Our Vacation Bible School this year was a great success. Eighteen adult and fourteen teen volunteers made a commitment to provide leadership during VBS. These people shared the Word of God with others and gave of themselves in countless ways. We are very thankful for their dedication and appreciate the gifts of their time, talents, and service.
We thank God for letting us experience the power of his presence at our Vacation Bible School.
